Baghdad is the capital and the largest city of Iraq and the 58th largest city of the World. Baghdad is also the capital coterminous Baghdad Province. Located along the Tigris River, the city was founded in the 8th century and became the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. Baghdad evolved into a significant center for the Islamic world. The name Baghdad is pre-Islamic and its origins are under some dispute.
